ENIHEI is a network of 38 higher education institutions recognized by the European Commission for their outstanding performance in some area of the European innovation ecosystem. ENIHEI develops collective innovative thinking on how higher education can drive innovation. Members of the European Network of Higher Education Institutions (ENIHEI) form a forum to exchange knowledge, ideas, and experiences on how higher education can promote an innovation culture, and enable creativity, entrepreneurship, and talent.
ENIHEI supports the European higher education system in its efforts to establish Europe as a global leader in the next wave of innovation.
ENIHEI develops ideas to advance innovation within the framework of two key European policies:
ENIHEI publishes reports and proposals with recommendations for the European Commission Services and other European innovation agents.
ENIHEI is a cross-section of the European higher education system, created to exchange and leverage experiences across various innovation domains and to act as role models for the wider higher education sector. Twenty-seven of them were nominated by the governments of the Member States and the rest were appointed directly by the European Commission from among the members of the University Alliances.

The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) hosted the 6th General Assembly of the European Network of Innovative Higher Education Institutions (ENIHEI), a consortium of 38 European institutions distinguished for their contributions to the continent’s innovation ecosystem. Established by the European Commission in 2022, ENIHEI promotes collaboration to advance the European Strategy for Universities and the New European Innovation Agenda. The two-day Assembly, held on 23–24 October at the MCAST Resource Centre Auditorium, focused on strengthening the network’s future role in cultivating an innovation-driven culture within higher education. A key outcome was the establishment of a new Steering Committee, chaired by MCAST’s Deputy Principal - Research and Student Academic Management Dr Tatjana Chircop, marking the transition of the network’s coordination from the University of Salamanca to MCAST. This milestone reflects the College’s expanding leadership in European innovation and higher education. The Assembly reaffirmed ENIHEI’s mission to facilitate knowledge exchange, foster collective innovation, and support higher education’s crucial role in driving innovation, developing talent, and nurturing creativity and entrepreneurship.
